FRIDAY, MAY 2 - MARK DUVAL

In the spring of 2006, Mark Duval emerged in Southwest Michigan from a 10-year musical hibernation with "Rhythm of the Rustbelt", his brilliant debut album, described by reviewer Dustin Walsh of Creem Magazine as "...the soundtrack to a summer sunrise over a dusty, forlorn Route 66."
His songwriting versatility takes the listener from haunted landscapes of brooding fingerstyle folk ballads to roots rock social commentary, shuffling blues riffs and latin grooves that show off his skills as a rhythm guitarist.
His follow-up release, "Two-Track Mind"(2007), was nominated for "Best new folk album of 2007" by WYCE in Grand Rapids, and he has a 3rd CD in the works, due out late 2008.
Mark Duval & Traci Seuss perform Mark's songs in listening room venues. Traci's beautiful vocal harmonies bring Mark's melodies to life, and they are often backed up with upright bass and various other instruments. Preview songs at myspace.com/markduval

SATURDAY, MAY 3 - SAM CORBIN
Sam Corbin's songwriting is strong, personal, and honest, influenced by artists ranging from Nick Drake and Elliott Smith to Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan.
Immersing himself in the Michigan folk roots scene, Sam has grown as a singer, songwriter, and musician learning multiple instruments including mandolin, dobro, guitar, and harmonica. He's shared the stage with many of Michigan's finest including Jen Sygit, Seth Bernard and Daisy May, Drew Howard, and Steppin' In It. In March of 2006 Sam released his first full length solo album entitled "Goodnight Candlelight."

FRIDAY, MAY 9 - KRISTY HANSON

Called a "soul-searching, soul-touching, wonderfully expressive songwriter" with an "impressive, far-ranging voice," the singer-songwriter and U of M grad returns to Ann Arbor as part of a cross-country tour. Bassist, producer and longtime partner Mike Chiaburu joins Kristy on-stage. The duo's "marvelous chemistry" was praised by LA's revered Music Connection magazine.

SATURDAY, MAY 10 - CHARLENE KAYE
Charlene Kaye is a skilled multi-instrumentalist, proficient on the guitar, banjo, and piano, using a variety of styles and tunings to communicate her songs. Drawing inspiration from both the natural world and from experiences of her own, her clear alto tells stories ranging from lighthearted tales of jailbirds and seagulls to soulful laments of love and loss. She will play an acoustic set joined by Taryn Wood on cello and vocals.

FRIDAY, MAY 16 - HANA MALHAS AND CHRIS DORMAN
Hana Malhas is a directionally-challenged local singer/songwriter addicted to chocolate. She writes words that find their purpose in the sounds of a piano or guitar (and occasionally the violin). She grew up in Jordan, crossed the pond, and currently resides in Ann Arbor. Her songs offer an acoustic blend of voice and instrument that deliver thoughtful imagery and an intuitive sense of motion. Sometimes they express the emotional implications of a cultural divide, but mostly they just describe moments in life. She writes songs that want to find their way to you because she believes that music can fill in when life sometimes gets in the way.

Chris Dorman, from Lansing, is a musician, a father, and a friend to the community. His songs are gentle, honest and strong. He writes about his friends, his family and his feelings and reflects upon the intrinsic value within a local culture that cannot be quantified or commoditized. He hopes his sounds will nurture and inspire all who hear them to appreciate that which is unique to them. So what is unique to him, you ask? Chris dreams of being an old man who tells funny stories over and over again even though he knows everybody already knows the punch line. www.myspace.com/chrisdorman or www.chrisdormanmusic.com

SATURDAY, MAY 17 - KYLE NORRIS
"Local singer-songwriter Kyle Norris premieres a brand new set of her
acoustic folk. Think shimmering, rich lyrics with a countrified, folkified groove. Think Joni Mitchell, Ryan Adams, and The Carter Family sharing a couple of bottles of wine."

FRIDAY, MAY 23 - LAURA PREMO
Laurel Premo shares a music, full of life, that draws from Appalachian, Celtic, Contemporary folk, Cajun, Bluegrass, and Scandinavian roots. From haunting old ballads to feverish instrumental compositions, her music is made for all ears. Laurel composes instrumental music for many of her instruments, including guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin, and cittern, as well as writes songs with lyrics that reflect an open view of the world. Now available is Laurel's first solo album, Innertwine, which features her compositions and traditional music. SATURDAY, MAY 24 - ANNA ASH
All we need to know is that Anna Ash is a not far off cousin of the yellowbird. with a lullaby of a voice, her and her friends take stringed instruments and mingle them with a smidgen of soul and a tad pinch of a shimmy and a twang. in the middle of somewhere that's not on the edge, the middle of something that's utterly endearing, Anna sits amongst all of the things that could sound like sophisticated, barefoot birthday parties where there are plenty of cupcakes with the right colored sprinkles, but also just enough side tables with lemonade that may or may not be spiked with things to make all the guests dizzy. any of the yellowbirds perched up in the backyard trees above the birthday party that heard her & her voice, which was probably coming from the kitchen-colored radio, would wonder which one of their cousins finally got captured & heard. they would think that her, their probable cousin, was sensible and brave sounding…and then they would wonder where she got all of her friends who toe tap and pick and pluck with her.
Her new album is called "hello friend (from bird above)"

FRIDAY, MAY 30 - BROWN FAMILY CABARET:
BROWN FAMILY CABARET: The Brown family joins forces for the first time ever in a cabaret of strange and wonderful originals, jazz comedy monologues, and musical collaboration. Featuring the late-night traveling spirituals of the Sari Brown Band, jazz comedian and singer-songwriter Andrew Brown, and the R&B originals of pianist Doug Brown.

SATURDAY, MAY 31- MIKE WAITE
Mike Waite is a singer/songwriter from the backwoods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. His velvet voice, smooth finger-pickin' acoustic guitar style combined with honest, beautifully crafted songs will touch your heart and bring a tear to your eye. Songs about friendship, love, bad habits, and the good life. Mike is celebrating the release of his latest C.D. 'Let it Go', recorded last year in Chicago. He will be joined by special guests John Churchville on percussion and Rob Crozier on bass.
